Design
Sydney Olympic Park consulted with a number of key sport organisations and elite athletes to develop the optimum design for the world-class Monster Mountain X facility.
Organisations involved in the design process include: Mountain Bike Australia, Western Sydney Mountain Bike Club, BMX Australia and BMX NSW. The design team of Brett Barnes and Geoff Cartwright were chosen to deliver the design based on their extensive experience. In addition, a group of pro test riders were involved in the final shaping stages of the course.
Designers Brett Barnes and Geoff Cartwright
Brett and Geoff have joined forces as a track designing & building team, as both like to see fast flowing tracks in BMX and 4X. Both see 4X as the next big thing to occur in cycling in Australia. Between them, they have designed and built a number of tracks including BMX tracks at Hawkesbury, Liverpool, Penrith and Macarthur as well as the Police (000) games 4X track and Luke Madill’s personal training track.
Brett is also a keen rider and is currently ranked BMX #2 Australia in Masters cruisers and has finished 1st or 2nd in NSW for the past 4 years. He also won the Elite Men, Western Sydney MTB club, 4X series in 2003. He enjoys all types of riding from BMX, to cross country to 4X and according to his wife has far too many bikes. Bretts two daughters funnily enough are also keen riders - his wife watches !
Geoff is currently considered the premier track builder and repairer in BMX circles. He has an art for making tracks that flow and produce high speeds. His latest passion is that of 4X, which he sees as the merging of BMX and Mountain biking as the next big thing in Australia.
