KLA: Geography
Location: Bicentennial Park Field Studies Centre
Description: Global Environments, Wetlands is a hands-on excursion involving the investigation of the unique wetland environments of Sydney Olympic Park. Using a range of fieldwork techniques, relevant field aids and equipment, the students will gather information within the mangrove environment. The information they collect will assist their understanding of how wetlands function, how humans interact with the wetlands and how to care for and manage them. Site specific mapping exercises will assist students to consolidate mapping skill concepts delivered in class and a NEW Geographic Information System (GIS) will assist students to investigate how the site has changed over time.

Location: Bicentennial Park Field Studies Centre
Description: Global Issues and the Role of Citizenship is a hands-on excursion investigating the mangrove wetland environment of Sydney Olympic Park. Students observe and assess past, current and future impacts on the wetlands due to human activities in the surrounding catchment to determine ways to manage impacts on the site and beyond its boundaries. This also includes international treaties for the protection of wetlands and their migratory wading birds. The information gathered empowers students to become more active citizens. Students conduct fieldwork activities using a range of geographical skills and fieldwork techniques, including the use of a GIS to collect information and primary data.

Location: Bicentennial Park Field Studies Centre
Description: Investigating Australia's Physical Environments (Changing Australian Communities) involves investigating a range of Australian environments, from mangrove wetlands to salt marsh and eucalypt forests. Within each of these environments, students undertake fieldwork tasks to better understand the uniqueness of Australian plants and their environments. Fieldwork techniques include the use of scientific equipment to measure abiotic factors, trundle wheels to calculate the size of an area, vegetation transects, drawing and labelling of unique plant features. A GIS will also be used by students to determine how the land use in the Sydney Olympic Park area has changed over the last 100 years.

Description: Issues in Australian Environments involves assessing the human impacts occurring on the waterways and wetland environments at Sydney Olympic Park and the ways in which these impacts can be managed. There is an emphasis on water quality issues including the identification of pollutant types, point sources of pollution, the evaluation of current management strategies and the development of new and improved strategies to improve water quality. Students use a range of geographic skills and undertake various fieldwork tasks, including the use of a GIS, in order to collect the primary data needed for their report.

Energy, Forces and the Environment (Stage 4) NEW!KLA: Science
Location: EnergyAustralia Education Centre, Newington Armory
Description: This excursion focuses on ways of making, transforming and using energy and takes place in and around a solar powered Education Centre.
Students undertake first hand investigations to observe energy transformations and forces at work, using equipment such as water wheels and our ‘energy bike’. Students also carry out hands-on activities that utilise wind turbines and solar panels in their design of a renewable home.
Activities in the field allow students to identify how renewable energy technology affects decisions made in everyday life. Ways we use the Earth’s resources to harness energy and how it may affect the environment in the future. An interactive activity about waste management challenges the students to consider resource reduction and the reuse of materials they use in their every day lives at school and in the home.
The Bush Tucker Garden environment adds a sustainable living component to this excursion encouraging students to reduce their foot print on the environment by using renewable resources.

Energy from Waste and Resource Use (Stage 5) NEW!KLA: Science
Location: EnergyAustralia Education Centre, Newington Armory
This excursion focuses on renewable energy and takes place in and around a solar powered Education Centre. Students will plan first hand investigations, and collect data on the relative electrical outputs from alternative energy technologies. Students undertake hands-on activities utilising wind turbines and solar panels to power up and run model cars. Activities in the field allow students to plan and undertake problem-solving tasks to better understand the reliability of renewable energy sources. Students will also evaluate the environmental and socio-economic impacts of utilising various energy resources.

KLA: Mathematics
Location: Bicentennial Park Field Studies Centre
Description: This Mathematics – Applications in the Environment excursion program provides opportunities for students to engage in real life situations that require mathematical skills. Students will explore and solve questions and problems related to scientific and management issues within the park. Skills used in this excursion will include: determining area of polygons and natural forms, calculating volume of cylinders, determining ratios of growth and size, collecting primary and secondary data and analysing results, averages of results, reading and interpreting charts, calculating heights, dates and time.

(Stage 4&5) NEW!KLA: Technology
Location: Wentworth Common
Description: This full day program aims to deepens students’ understanding of environmental and landscape design practices and related technologies. Reflecting the syllabus Area of Study: ‘Built Environments’, students explore design and environmental management in the precinct of Sydney Olympic Park.
Field-based activities are conducted around our Water Reclamation and Management System (WRAMS) and newly landscaped public recreation spaces within Wentworth Common. Students discover how sewage and storm water are turned into clean water for irrigation and household use through investigation of WRAMS, 3D interpretive models and soil sample testing.
Students also undertake 'Design Scene Investigations’ and are challenged to explore issues about environmental sustainable practices and develop their own designs whilst managing water and soil wisely.

KLA: Science
Location: Bicentennial Park Field Studies Centre
Description: Ecosystems provides students the opportunity to participate in a range of first-hand investigation techniques to identify factors affecting the survival of organisms in an inter-tidal wetland ecosystem and the adaptations that wetland organisms have to cope with these factors. Using a variety of science devices and techniques, students collect data about abiotic and biotic factors in the wetland and evaluate how the use of natural resources by humans may impact on these factors. Students also learn about and observe interactions between organisms (including micro-organisms) and use this information to construct food chains. This excursion includes an opportunity to examine and sketch features of the unique root and leaf systems in mangroves and identify their role in maintaining the plant’s function in a hypoxic saline environment.

Location: Bicentennial Park Field Studies Centre
Description: Ecosystems provides the opportunity to participate in a range of first-hand investigations to assess human impacts on the interaction of biotic and abiotic features of an inter-tidal wetland environment.
Use field observation techniques to describe the environment and create a food web to examine the importance of the cycling of materials through this ecosystem.
Use observations and data collected in the field to evaluate methods of conserving, protecting or maintaining the natural resources in the wetland. Reasons for the evolution of unique adaptations in mangroves are discussed during hands-on investigations into aspects of these interesting plants.
Abiotic and biotic factors in the ecosystem are distinguished and measured using various field techniques such as transects and data loggers.

Active Lifestyle Program (Stage 5) NEW!KLA: PDHPE PASS Elective
Location: Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre, Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre, Sydney Olympic Park Golf Centre, Monster Skatepark
Description: The Active Lifestyle Program is designed to enhance physical activity, increase sports skills and participation using the world-class facilities and venues at Sydney Olympic Park. Programs are delivered by leading sports coaches and instructors and all equipment is supplied. The Active Lifestyle Program reflects the NSW Board of Studies curriculum and caters for all levels of fitness and physical skill.
PASS modules include: physical activity for health; physical fitness; fundamentals of movement skill development; Australia’s sporting identity; lifestyle, leisure and recreation; enhancing performance-strategies and techniques; and technology, participation and performance.
Duration: 90 minutes per session (morning and afternoon sessions available)
Cost: costs range from $10.50 - $18.50 per student per session dependant on venue selected
Student Numbers: minimum 15 and maximum 30 students per session.
Booking: Complete the Excursion Booking Form and PASS Booking Form. Students participating in Monster Skatepark sessions must produce a signed waiver on the day of their excursion.

Description: Students participate in a program consisting of two or three sports conducted by qualified and experienced coaches. Sports offered: Badminton, Basketball, Floorball, Futsal (Indoor Soccer), Gymnastics, Handball, Hockey, Netball, Strength and Conditioning, Table Tennis and Volleyball.

Description: Enjoy a leisure swim at the Aquatic Centre. The centre’s water wonderland includes 2x50m pools, spas, rapid river ride, spray jets, spurting volcanoes, water slide and bubble beach, all surrounded by lush palm trees and colourful mosaics. The heated indoor pools also have professional supervision.

iSKATE Monster ClinicsKLA: Sport
Location: Monster Skatepark
Description: Led by Monster Skatepark’s specially trained iSKATE coaches, the clinic program caters for all levels of skater, from beginners right through to the accomplished. Students are divided into groups of up to 13 skateboarders or
inliners with each coach. The clinic focuses on a spectrum of skills that go beyond the ramps to include use of protective equipment, skate park etiquette and how to set and achieve goals in these creative sports.
Duration: 70 minutes
Cost: $17.50 per student includes provision of skateboard/inline skates and protective equipment. Minimum of 8 students per clinic. Can accommodate up to 35 students per 70-minute session.

iSKATE Monster ExperimentKLA: Sport
Location: Monster Skatepark
Description: A one hour skateboarding and/or inline skating session that combines free skate time and guided self discovery under the supervision and direction of Monster Skatepark accredited iSKATE coaches. Aside from encouraging the pure enjoyment of these creative ramp sports, the session is designed around peak experience for skaters of all ability and levels. Students will be introduced to the iSKATE progressive levels of learning plus key skills such as safety equipment use, skate park etiquette and how to set and achieve goals.
Duration: 1 hour
Cost: $16.00 per student includes provision of skateboard/inline skates and protective equipment. Minimum of 20 students, maximum of 30 students per session.

Inline Skating and SkateboardingKLA: Sport
Location: Monster Skatepark
Description: Enjoy free skating at Monster Skatepark. Designed for experienced skateboarders and inliners, Monster offers students the ability to book the park for one-off or weekly school sport. Students must bring their own skateboards or inline skates. Schools that book for an entire term should enquire about our special iSKATE assessment offer.
