Operational Performance

The WRAMS (Water Reclamation and Management Scheme) commenced official operation on 27 July 2000 at a capital cost of $15 million.

This followed extensive consultation processes and comprehensive auditing of drinking water and recycled water networks. Special attention and resources were provided to detect potential cross connections between the potable and recycled water systems.

Since July 2000 WRAMS has operated continuously and achieved all mandatory performance standards (chemical, physical and biological). A saving of 850 million litres of drinking water is achieved each year.

The biggest test for WRAMS was during the Sydney Olympic and Paralympic Games. During the Games peak daily demand for recycled water was 4ML. Over the entire Games period 100ML of recycled water was used across the Park, primarily for toilet flushing. This compares with 122ML of drinking water delivered to customers across Sydney Olympic Park.

During the Games, recycled water was not supplied to the Athletes Village as all available pipelines were needed to ensure capability of delivering drinking water.
