Celebrate being Australian with free Family-friendly entertainment

5 January 2009

With kids’ rides, live music, a cultural bazaar and loads of free entertainment, Sydney Olympic Park is the most family-friendly place to celebrate all the wonderful things about being Australian on Australia Day.

In the beautiful surrounds of Bicentennial Park, Sydney Olympic Park Authority and Auburn Council will provide plenty of free entertainment for the whole family on Monday, January 26.

The entertainment reflects the cultural diversity of modern Australian society with performances from Studio 11 Dance Studio, the Brent Street Dancers Australiana Show, brass band Enormous Horns and cultural performances from Sydney Cook Island Dance Group, Arabian Extreme, Chinese acrobat Jerry Liu, a Chinese lion dance and the Oriental Dance Troupe.

There will also be plenty of entertainment for the kids, children’s entertainers Wild Aussies, Jac and Pete, The Gigalees Circus Show and several young Australians will perform, including 12 year old Shelby Thornett who is an amazing yodeller. Fifteen-year-olds Georgia White and Blake Giles will also perform hits from a range of Aussie stars like Olivia Newton-John and Johnny O’Keefe.

Children will love the range of workshops – drumming, circus and craft – that can be enjoyed at no cost. Similarly, the Animal Farm will have pony rides and Star Park is the perfect venue for sports, singing and dancing.

With amusement rides, roving performers, face painters and a screening of Dr Seuss’s Horton Hears a Who! – Sydney Olympic Park is sure to be a paradise for little ones.

Vega 95.3FM personality Jo Abi will be the MC for the day, introducing the FREE entertainment for the whole family.

Renowned medical practitioner and former AMA President Kerryn Phelps will be there to celebrate the achievements of outstanding local residents, who will be honoured in a civic ceremony to award the Auburn Citizens of the Year.

Families can bring a picnic or enjoy some of the delicious food available in the beautiful surrounds of one of Sydney’s most distinctive locations.
